Tony Bennett, New York’s sensational jazz and pop artist is bringing his signature sounds to NYCB Theater!
Tony Bennett (birth name Anthony Dominick Benedetto) was born in Astoria (Queens) in 1926 and is a singer and painter. His musical style spans the genres of traditional pop standards, big band, show tunes, and jazz music. His artistic stance on music has remain unchanged over his career and he said in an interview: "I'm not staying contemporary for the big record companies, I don't follow the latest fashions. I never sing a song that's badly written. In the 1920s and '30s, there was a renaissance in music that was the equivalent of the artistic Renaissance. Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer and others just created the best songs that had ever been written. These are classics, and finally they're not being treated as light entertainment. This is classical music.” He’s had a stellar career with 57 studio albums, 11 live albums, 31 compilation albums, 3 video albums, 1 extended play, 81 singles, and he’s sold over 50 million albums worldwide. He’s received many accolades including 19 Grammy Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), 2 Emmy Awards, a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award, and many more.
