Marc Craig Cohn was born in Cleveland in 1959 and is a singer, songwriter, and musician. He began his musical journey in junior high school by learning to the play the guitar and writing songs. While his musical style can be broadly classified as folk rock (a style that arose in the United States and the United Kingdom around the mid 1960s, pioneered by the Los Angeles band the Byrds, who began playing traditional folk music and songs by Bob Dylan with rock instrumentation, in a style heavily influenced by the Beatles and other British bands), it also includes elements of alternative country (a subgenre of country music that incorporates influences ranging from roots rock, bluegrass, rockabilly, honky-tonk, alternative rock, folk rock, and punk rock) and soft rock. He’s had a stellar career with 8 studio albums (1 of which has been certified Gold in Canada and Platinum in the US), 18 singles, and 3 extended plays. He’s received many accolades including a Grammy Award for Best New Artist (from 3 nominations; the other 2 being Pop Male Vocalist and Song of the Year) and an American Music Award nomination (for Favorite New Artist – Adult Contemporary).
