Chubby Checker, Mary Wilson, and Martha Reeves are bringing their signature sounds to the NYCB Theater!
Chubby Checker (birth name Ernest Evans) was born in Spring Gully (South Carolina) in 1941 and is a singer and dancer. His musical style is best described as a blend of rock and roll (a genre of popular music that originated - in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s - from African American musical styles such as gospel, jazz, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues, and country music) and early rhythm and blues. He's had a stellar career with many hit singles and he's the only recording artist to place five albums on the 12 of the Billboard chart all at once. He's best known for his cover of rhythm and blues singer and songwriter Hank Ballard's 1959 hit single, The Twist. In 2008, Billboard magazine named his cover the biggest chart hit of all time. He's also received the Sandy Hosey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Artists Music Guild. Mary Wilson was born in Greenville (Mississippi) in 1944 and is an R&B and soul singer, author, and actress. She's best known as a founding member of legendary all female R&B group The Supremes. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
