Apocalyptica, Finland’s sensational neoclassical metal artists are bringing their electrifying sounds to the NYCB Theater!
The band was formed in 1993 by four classically trained cellists (Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Max Lilja, and Antero Manninen) who had gathered at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy to play Metallica covers. They recruited drummer Mikko Sirén and released their debut studio album (Plays Metallica by Four Cellos) in 1996. The album went Platinum in Finland and Gold in Poland as well as in Germany. Their next album (1998’s Inquisition Symphony) also had Metallica covers, but also included covers of Faith No More, Sepultura, and Pantera (along with 3 original songs written by Eicca). Although they started as a classical cover band for Metallica, they eventually adopted a neoclassical metal style without the use of conventional guitars. Their 2008 single (I Don't Care) featured the lead singer from Three Days Grace and topped Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock chart.
